Fiber Optical Connector - ST Vs SC

According to the structure, fiber optical connectors can be divided into FC, SC, ST, LC, D4, DIN, MU, MTP, MPO and so on in various forms. The optical interface is the physical interface used to connect fiber optic cable. Today, we will mainly introduce you SC connector and ST connector. ST connectors are among the most commonly used fiber optical connectors in networking applications. They are cylindrical with twist lock coupling, 2.5mm keyed ferrule. ST connectors are used in both short distance applications and long line systems. The ST connector has a bayonet mount and a long cylindrical ferrule to hold the fiber. Because they are spring-loaded, you have to make sure they are seated properly. They are easily inserted and removed due to their design. If you experience high light loss, try reconnecting. SC connectors are frequently used for newer network applications. The SC is a snap-in connector that is widely used in singlemode systems for its performance. The SC connector is also available in a duplex configuration. They offer low cost, simplicity, and durability. SC fiber connectors provide for accurate alignment via their ceramic ferrules. The square, snap-in connector latches with a simple push-pull motion and is keyed. They feature a 2.5mm ferrule and molded housing for protection. Typical matched SC connectors are rated for 1000 mating cycles and have an insertion loss of 0.25 dB. Then, what are the differences between ST and SC fiber optical connectors? ST connectors are metal frame connectors. SC connectors, however, are plastic frame connectors. Some people believe that ST connectors are better made than the SC connectors and are a better choice for single mode connections, but the manufacturing processes are so good these days that it could be argued that they are equal. SC connectors are generally cheaper and are a good choice for multimode patch cords. However, ST connectors are a better choice for angled connectors used when ultralow back reflection connections are required. Commonly, the differences between different types of fiber optical connectors can easily be overlooked. However, taking the time to select the right one for the job can deliver big benefits when it comes to speed and cost, so take the time to investigate your options before making your connector choice.
